The sweet potatoes from Yanchang County are celebrated for their impressive size, vibrant red and thin skin, stringless texture, tender flesh, soft and moist consistency, and high sugar content, while being almost free of fat and cholesterol. Through meticulous selective breeding and domestication over the years, those grown in Huoyanshan Village, Luozishan Town, have gained particular renown and are deeply favored by consumers. Scientific analysis confirms that they are a rich source of protein, starch, dietary fiber, vitamins, and various trace elements, with an especially high lysine content.
In recent years, the sweet potato industry has emerged as a key driver of rural prosperity, ranking second only to the leading industry in terms of income generation for local residents. With the support and guidance of the government, a demonstration base has been established in Zhengzhuang Town, dedicated to showcasing new sweet potato varieties and implementing standardized farming techniques. Covering an area of approximately 200 mu, the base has ensured the diversity and quality of sweet potato seedlings. Currently, the average yield is 3,000 catties per mu, with an output value of around RMB 7,000 Yuan per mu. Local peasants have reaped significant benefits from the sweet potato industry, with their incomes steadily increasing.
