Nestled in a region with a mild climate and abundant rainfall, Huanglong County boasts flowers blooming in three seasons. The area is home to over 300 species of nectar-rich plants, including long-flowering and high-yield varieties such as black locust, vetch, and lacquer trees. These exceptional natural conditions make Huanglong an ideal habitat for Chinese honey bee (Apis cerana) cultivation, creating a perfect ecosystem for premium honey production.
The Chinese Honey Bee (Apis cerana cerana), also known as Zhongfeng, is one of the nine major honey bee species in the world. As China’s indigenous bee subspecies, it serves as the sole effective pollinator for many rare native plants, playing an irreplaceable role in maintaining ecological balance. To protect this vital species, China’s Ministry of Agriculture has established five national conservation zones for Chinese honey bees, with Huanglong County being one of them. The county earned the title “Hometown of Chinese Honey Bees” in 2013. Later, Huanglong Honey was granted the status of National Geographical Indication Protected Product in 2016, and in 2022 it was successfully included in China’s Catalog of Famous, Special and High-Quality New Agricultural Products with official certification awarded by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs.
